Poetry on the Bus
The concept of “Poetry on the Bus” is domestic tourism driven and incorporated with poetry, live music performances with the aim to expose Sol Plaatje local community members and tourists to tourist attractions in Kimberley and the surrounding areas. Community members will be exposed to various tourist attraction sites that form part of the provinces’ offering through a double deck bus taking the people to various sites in Kimberley complemented by stopping at the destinations with strategic pit stops and tour guiding & performances after an expedition by local artists comprising of cultural group, poets and a band.

Taxi to Galeshewe
Galeshewe, named after the legend, hero and stalwart, “Kgosi Galeshewe”, is one of the oldest townships in South Africa with a very rich history.  Taxi to Galeshewe offers an exciting trip, all historic locations will be visited such as the first post office in Galeshewe, the beer house, Robert Sobukwe’s house and offices where he practiced, etc. 

N12 Promotion
The N12 promotion is an annual activity that is normally held by the Tourism sub-unit of the LED within the Sol Plaatje Municipality in partnership with other tourism related offices in the city such as the Department of Economic Development and Tourism, Northern Cape Tourism Authority (NCTA), Frances Baard District Tourism office together with Traffic Department and South African Police and other sponsors.
The objective of the promotion is to target motorists travelling along the N12 through Kimberley to their various destinations during the festive season and market the tourist attractions through dissemination of the Kimberley brochures, Tourism Packages and other promotional material

Sol Plaatje Municipality’s Woman to Woman Arts Festival
This initiative is to motivate and encourage woman to be themselves and to seek professional help from different institutions dealing with issues affecting woman.
The main objective of the Woman to Woman arts festival is fostering, exposing and developing the arts in Kimberley and Northern Cape Province as a whole, whereby local artist within the community are encouraged to produce top class stage productions that will further aid to positioning the city as a preferred tourist destination, while developing and providing platform to the locals, simultaneously empowering woman through the portrayal of life scenarios and how to overcome their challenges in the form of drama and performance.   

The Barney Barnato Golf Tournament
The Barney Barnato Golf Tournament which forms the platform for many golfers, both locally and internationally to meet, network, share in the fun and in true sportsman spirit, is an annual event that has been hosted by the Kimberley Golf Club over the years and has attracted players from around the globe.  It has the potential to become one of the biggest tournaments of its kind in South Africa and has become the most important event on Kimberley’s calendar, 2011 will be the 22nd anniversary of the tournament.  

Gariep Festival
The Gariep Kunstefees (Arts Festival) is an annual held in Kimberley, has an impressive line-up of local musicians, a film festival showcasing new film-makers, as well as art exhibitions and children's theatre.

Tourism Month Celebrations
With the month of September being declared as the tourism month, each year the Minister of Tourism celebrates the national tourism day which are taking place on the 27th of September every year.  The celebration is normally a 2-day event that starts off with a Media Conference in the Gauteng Province and the following day with a gala dinner at Mokala National Park whereby the announcement of winners for the ETEYA awards (Emerging Tourism Entrepreneur of the Year) and the service excellence awards will be made.
The service excellence awards were launched in the Northern Cape Province by NCTA (Northern Cape Tourism Authorities) in 2008 with the objective of inculcating and encouraging excellent service in all tourism related businesses in the Province


Mural Art
The Mural Arts emanates from the need to vigorously promote local tourism in Kimberley, through fine arts specifically Mural art, further promoting domestic tourism, thus also diversifying the tourist routes in Galeshewe.  The purpose of the this project is to strengthen the Galeshewe Activity Route, integrate fine art with tourism, develop art and tourism to previously disadvantaged communities, create a platform for emerging fine art artist in Kimberley and also to upgrade the township aesthetics through mural art.
